Small tornado northwest of town
May 12 (ANYTOWN, ST) A small tornado touched down briefly near the local highway on Tuesday afternoon around 5:30 pm. Jim Smith reported no damage on his place. J.C. Welling was not available for comment about any possible damage on his ranch.

May 11 (ANYTOWN, ST) — Anytown Medical Center opened its new Joel G. Smith Cardiac Unit yesterday with an all-out celebration featuring the Good News Jazz Band and a holiday sing-along led by numerous church choirs and the Anytown High School Chorus. The unit, endowed by Susan R. Smith in memory of her husband, gives Anytown Medical Center the ability to perform heart surgeries that were previously impossible. Smith also endowed three new staff positions at the hospital for a surgeon and cardiac team. She told the Post, ''I can't imagine a better tribute to Joel. As a board member here, he worked so hard to expand the capabilities of the hospital. This was our dream.'' Joel Smith suffered three heart attacks, the first when he as only 47 years old.
